House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) have taken action by subpoenaing Attorney General Merrick Garland for documents related to Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into President Joe Biden's handling of classified information. The committees are seeking transcripts, notes, video, and audio files, as well as classified documents referenced in the report.

Chairman Comer expressed the need for transparency and accountability regarding President Biden's actions, stating, “The Justice Department has closed its investigation into classified documents, but the Oversight Committee and Judiciary Committee’s investigation continues. Americans expect equal justice under the law and DOJ is allowing the Bidens to operate above it."

Chairman Jordan emphasized the importance of the materials from the investigation, saying, “Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents made two things clear: there’s a double standard of justice in this country and Joe Biden isn’t fit for office."

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith also voiced concerns about the investigation, stating, “Now that Special Counsel Hur’s investigation has concluded, the American people have a right to know whether President Biden retained classified documents related to his family’s overseas business dealings."

The committees are seeking clarity on whether President Biden retained sensitive documents related to his family's foreign business dealings and any potential limitations placed during interviews with the Special Counsel. They are pushing for access to recordings of the interviews to provide transparency to the American people.
