House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer has called on the D.C. Council to finalize legislative actions for the redevelopment of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus before their August 2025 recess. In his communication with D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, Comer highlighted Congress’s bipartisan approval of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act, intended to facilitate swift redevelopment efforts.
Comer warned against potential politically motivated delays that could hinder this significant economic opportunity for Washington, D.C., particularly after the Council removed authorizing language from its budget. “The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is writing regarding the District of Columbia’s implementation of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act and the urgency of completing all necessary legislative action on the proposed stadium redevelopment by August 2025,” stated Comer.
He emphasized that successful passage would lead to a historic $2.7 billion private investment by the Washington Commanders, transforming 174 acres of underutilized federal property. The committee expects required votes and public hearings to be completed before the August recess, urging timely action without unnecessary delays.
“Successful passage of the RFK Stadium plan would constitute the largest private investment in D.C. history… Further delays can threaten [this]…and be seen as clear disregard to congressional intent,” concluded Comer.
