Subcommittee Chairwoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) addressed the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) during a hearing titled “Public Funds, Private Agendas: NGOs Gone Wild.” In her opening remarks, Greene discussed what she described as corrupt connections between left-wing nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), Democratic officials, and bureaucrats who allocate grants and contracts. She argued that these actions advance an agenda not supported by most Americans.

Greene stated, “The Left has funneled hundreds of billions of federal tax dollars through Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to push destructive policies and line the pockets of their friends and allies.” She emphasized that the hearing aimed to bring transparency to these activities for the American public.

According to Greene, this process involves Democrat administration officials collaborating with leftist NGOs to implement programs that ensure substantial grants and contracts for those NGOs. These organizations then reportedly contribute to Democratic political campaigns. Greene described this relationship as an intricate web where it is challenging to distinguish between government functions and NGO activities.

During the hearing, witnesses were expected to discuss how funds have been channeled through NGOs, enabling policies that have caused damage according to Greene. She cited green energy initiatives as one example where federal dollars have allegedly destabilized the U.S. power grid while increasing energy costs.

Greene criticized the Biden Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for directing funds towards climate-focused NGOs via a $20 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. However, she acknowledged efforts by the Trump Administration and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin in terminating these grants.

The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is investigating Biden’s GGRF fund. According to Greene, all awardees are linked to both the Biden Administration and Democratic donors.

Greene also addressed issues related to illegal immigration, alleging that federally funded NGOs support illegal border crossings by providing various services. She mentioned specific incidents involving crimes committed by individuals who entered the country illegally.

She concluded her remarks by calling for an end to what she sees as wasteful use of taxpayer resources under current NGO funding practices.
