House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer has announced an upcoming hearing titled “The Federal Government in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” This session aims to delve into how the federal government can leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance efficiency, reduce fraud, and improve services for American taxpayers. The committee will address challenges such as outdated IT systems, limited AI literacy among federal employees, a complex procurement process for new technologies, and inadequate data management that have impeded AI adoption.
This hearing aligns with President Donald Trump’s Executive Order supporting AI innovation in the United States. The order seeks to eliminate obstacles in the AI sector to maintain America’s competitive edge globally.
Chairman Comer emphasized the importance of maintaining U.S. leadership in AI: “The United States is the global leader in AI, but we must never take this advantage for granted. AI powers critical defense technologies and drives innovation in industries from healthcare to manufacturing. President Trump and his administration understand that AI represents the next frontier, and maintaining our technological edge is a critical priority in the years ahead. As AI adoption accelerates, the federal government needs to be prepared to deploy this transformative technology efficiently and effectively. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to unleash AI responsibly and ensure the federal government leads innovation while protecting the interests and rights of all Americans.”
The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM ET at HVC-210, U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. Witnesses include Mr. Yll Bajraktari from Special Competitive Studies Project, Mr. Bhavin Shah from Moveworks, Ms. Linda Miller from TrackLight, and Mr. Adam Thierer from R Street Institute. The event will be available via livestream.
