House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer has issued a subpoena to Ghislaine Maxwell for a deposition at the Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee. The deposition is scheduled for August 11, 2025. The Department of Justice is cooperating with the committee to facilitate this process.
Representative Tim Burchett recently made a motion for Chairman Comer to subpoena Maxwell during a Government Operations Subcommittee hearing. This motion was adopted by voice vote.
Chairman Comer stated, “The facts and circumstances surrounding both your and Mr. Epstein’s cases have received immense public interest and scrutiny.” He noted that the committee had requested information from the Department of Justice regarding Jeffrey Epstein’s investigation and prosecution earlier this year.
Reports indicate that Maxwell expressed willingness to speak with Congress about Epstein’s criminal activities. Additionally, President Donald Trump directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce all relevant grand jury testimony related to the case. Attorney General Bondi confirmed that a motion had been filed, and efforts are underway to speak with Maxwell.
Comer emphasized the importance of congressional oversight in these matters: “While the Justice Department undertakes efforts to uncover and publicly disclose additional information related to your and Mr. Epstein’s cases, it is imperative that Congress conduct oversight of the federal government’s enforcement of sex trafficking laws generally.”
The committee seeks Maxwell’s testimony as part of its examination into potential legislative solutions aimed at improving federal responses to sex trafficking and reforming agreements used in sex-crime investigations.
