Subcommittee on Government Operations Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) has announced a hearing titled “An Update on Mail Theft and Crime.” The event will address the ongoing issue of mail theft that affects communities nationwide by disrupting the timely delivery of important documents. The hearing will provide an opportunity for postal officials to discuss the prevalence of mail theft and crime, as well as the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) measures to combat these issues. Additionally, members of Congress will evaluate potential legislative actions to support mail carriers and reduce theft.
“Mail theft is a serious crime that needs to be addressed and combated. Delivery delays, stolen and fraudulent mail, and safety challenges in major cities all reduce USPS’s ability to effectively make important daily deliveries to Americans across the country. Mail carriers should be able to make deliveries without threats to their safety, and Americans should have peace of mind that their mail will arrive on time and untouched. I look forward to hearing from witnesses about their efforts to curb mail theft and fraud,” said Subcommittee Chairman Sessions.
The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. ET in HVC-210 at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center.
Witnesses set to testify include Brendan Donahue, Inspector in Charge at the United States Postal Inspection Service; Julius Rothstein, Deputy Inspector General at the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General; Brian Renfroe, President of the National Association of Letter Carriers; Frank Albergo, President of the Postal Police Officers Association; and Anthony Holloway, Chief of Police for St. Petersburg Police Department in Florida.
The proceedings will be available via livestream.
