Task Force Chairwoman Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, addressed the second hearing on the declassification of files related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Luna criticized the federal government’s handling of information related to the assassination and commended former President Trump for his efforts in declassifying relevant documents.
In her opening remarks, Luna emphasized the lack of transparency surrounding the release of federal documents that hold public interest. She stated, “Over sixty years ago on a crowded street in Dallas, Texas, the president of the United States was assassinated in front of a horrified crowd, his Secret Service protection, and his wife.” She further highlighted how this tragic event has been compounded by decades of misinformation and secrecy.
Luna acknowledged cooperation from the National Archives and noted their provision of posters allegedly produced for the CIA to show President Johnson shortly after Kennedy’s assassination. These images are recognized as part of the Zapruder film capturing Kennedy’s final moments.
The hearing aims to listen to witnesses who have waited years to share their accounts. Luna clarified that “the Task Force is not here to provide the definitive account” but rather to uncover hidden information within federal agencies that have resisted transparency.
She expressed gratitude towards President Trump for his executive order promoting transparency regarding documents linked to Kennedy’s assassination as well as those concerning Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Task Force’s role is to ensure compliance with this order.
Luna also addressed unresolved issues such as missing files like the Joannides files and Lee Harvey Oswald’s travel records. Recent communication with the CIA indicated that four out of five requested documents would soon be released publicly.
Additionally, she mentioned an ongoing request for specific footage from NBC which has yet to be fulfilled accurately.
