William Timmons, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Military and Foreign Affairs, has announced a hearing focused on unauthorized drone activity over U.S. military installations. The session, titled “Securing the Skies: Addressing Unauthorized Drone Activity Over U.S. Military Installations,” responds to the increase in drone incursions posing national security threats. The ambiguity in federal agencies’ responsibilities leaves military sites vulnerable to surveillance and potential threats.
Timmons stated, “U.S. agencies’ confusion over who is responsible for countering increased drone activity severely hinders our military’s ability to respond to threats in real time. The Biden Administration’s lack of decisive leadership has left us vulnerable to attack by hostile foreign nations. President Trump’s direct approach has demonstrated the need for effective policies that tackle this issue head-on and quickly address vulnerabilities. This hearing will highlight the growing threat of unauthorized drone activity and examine why strong leadership and swift action are needed to strengthen U.S. military readiness and defend the American people.”
The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM ET in the Capitol Visitors Center’s HVC-210. Key witnesses include Rear Admiral Paul Spedero Jr. from the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Mr. Mark Roosevelt Ditlevson from the Department of Defense. Mr. Timothy L. Arel of the Federal Aviation Administration will also testify. The hearing will be available for public viewing via a livestream.
