Rep. James Comer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Kentucky’s 1st district, has shared a series of statements on social media highlighting recent political developments and expressing his views on national issues.
On May 3, 2025, Rep. Comer announced the appointment of two former staffers from his tenure as Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture to leadership roles within the USDA in Kentucky. He stated: “Proud to see two of my former staffers from my time as Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture appointed by the Trump Administration to top @USDA leadership roles in Kentucky! Travis Burton will serve as Rural Development Director, and David Wayne will serve as State Director.”
Two days later, on May 5, 2025, he criticized Democratic policies regarding border security and fiscal management while commending President Trump and Congressional Republicans for their efforts to restore what he describes as “commonsense” governance. He wrote: “Democrats enacted policies to erode border security, waste billions of taxpayer dollars, and leave all Americans vulnerable. President Trump and Congressional Republicans are now bringing commonsense back to Washington. Promises made, promises kept.”
Later that day, Rep. Comer expressed concern over the use of taxpayer money for gain-of-function research related to coronaviruses under the Biden Administration and Dr. Fauci’s oversight. He remarked: “Every American should be outraged that their tax dollars were used by mad scientists to engineer more deadly and transmissible coronaviruses. The Biden Administration and Dr. Fauci allowed your money to fund risky and secretive gain-of-function research.”
Rep. Comer was born in Carthage, Tennessee in 1972 and currently resides in Tompkinsville. He has been a member of Congress since replacing Ed Whitfield in 2016 after serving in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2001 to 2012.
