Heartland Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center operates on a for-profit basis.

In that quarter, the facility earned a four-star overall CMS rating, surpassing Kentucky’s state nursing home average of 3.0. CMS ratings are based on core factors including health inspection performance, staffing, and resident care quality.

Reported data shows that Heartland Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center served an average daily census of 41.7 residents with 45 available beds during the first quarter of 2026. The nursing facility is not affiliated with any hospital.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation’s older adult population continues to expand, while younger demographics shrink. From 2020 to 2024, individuals age 65 and older rose by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the last century, the country’s older population climbed from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 report found that nearly half of adults age 65 and older—about 28 million—could need long-term care services and supports. The same study predicted over one-third of this group might ultimately need care in a nursing home.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
