Young adds to 2023 Coaching Staff

After a record breaking singing day that saw Head Football Coach Tyrone Young sign 44 players to his squad, he has now beefed up his coaching staff with four new hires.

Jeff Owens - Defensive Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach

Jeff Owens comes to Wesleyan after a season coaching the defensive line at Kentucky Christian University. While at KCU, the defense ranked fifth in the NAIA in defensive touchdowns and 15th in takeaways. Prior to his time at KCU, Owens had multiple coaching stops, including Savannah State, Plantation High School, and West Forsyth High School. Prior to his coaching career, Owens had a storied playing career. Owens played five years at the University of Georgia and graduated from UGA with a Bachlor of Science in Child and Family Development in 2009. He was named to the All-State AFCA Good Works team in 2009 and recorded 102 tackles and six sacks in his career. He was drafted in the seventh round of the NFL draft to the Philadelphia Eagles before having to retire after just one year due to injury.

Michael Walker - Wide Receivers Coach

Michael Walker is familiar with Kentucky Wesleyan as he was a wide receiver for the Panthers from 2018-20. Following his KWC career, Walker played at Campbellsville University, where he led the team in both receiving yards and touchdowns. After his playing career, Walker attended Western Kentucky, during which he was the wide receivers and special teams coach at Allen County Scottsville. Prior to his collegiate career, Walker won four state championships playing at Mayfield high school

"Owensboro always felt like a home to me," states Walker. "When Coach Young offered me the job I was ecstatic. It feels great to be coming back home where I can make an impact both on and off the field at the same place it all started for me."

JeMichael Williams - Corners/Returners Coach

JeMichael Williams was a two-time state champion at Fulton High School before going on to play football at Kentucky Christian University. Following his collegiate career, Williams played professionally in the Arena Football League with the San Angelo Bandits, Amarillo Venom, and hte Omaha Beef. During the offseason, Williams would hone his coaching skills by coaching high school defensive backs and wide receivers.

Nicholas Haddock - Defensive Tackles Coach

A name many recent Kentucky Wesleyan Football fans are familiar with, Nicholas Haddock will join Coach Young's staff this season as the defensive tackles coach. Haddock had a successful playing career for the Panthers, coming through with 59 tackles in his three seasons at KWC.

Changing titles will be Glen Rowell, who is now the Linebackers Coach and Co-Special Teams Coordinator, and RJ Wilson, who is the Running Backs Coach and joins Rowell as the Co-Special Teams Coordinator.

"I couldn't be more excited to bring on these four guys. They bring an unmatched energy and passion that is much welcome at KWC. They bring a wealth of talent that will adapt well for our guys and bring the DIG IN culture to boost our recruiting efforts. I couldn't be happier to have these guys at home with us, today is a great day to be a Panther!" - Tyrone Young.
