The City of Owensboro’s Edge Ice Center will host the 12th Annual Living on the Edge ISI Invitational Skating Competition March 8-10.

Competing teams include:

  • The Robert Unger Ice Chalet - Knoxville, Tennessee
  • Lou and Gib Reese Ice Arena - Newark, OH
  • St. Peters Rec-Plex - St. Peters, Missouri
  • Greater Pensacola Figure Skating Club - Pensacola, Florida
  • City of Owensboro’s Edge Ice Center

Nearly 90 figure skaters will compete in the weekend event. The direct economic impact for the 3-day event is estimated at $120,497. The Edge Ice Center team is comprised of local skaters between the ages of 6-20 years. “The local Owensboro skaters have been practicing hard and are ready to compete on their home ice as they prepare to travel to Newark, Ohio later in the month,” says Team Coach, Kerry Bodenheimer.

A new event for the local skaters is Synchronized Skating. The team is new, formed from the newly added Intro to Synchro synchronized skating class, held as part of the Edge’s Learn to Skate program. “This new event for our local skaters gives those who may not want to compete individually, the opportunity to compete as part of a group. It’s a lot of fun, and I’ve been so impressed at how quickly our new skaters have adapted to the routine” states Bodenheimer.

There are no admission fees and spectators are welcome during the following competition times:

  • Friday, March 8 – 5:00-9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 9 – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 10 – 7:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The facility will be closed for public skating throughout the weekend.
