Today, Congressman James Comer announced President Donald Trump’s approval of a major disaster declaration for Kentucky, as the state grapples with the aftermath of catastrophic flooding. The declaration facilitates the release of federal funds to aid communities affected by the disaster.
Congressman Comer acknowledged the impact of the floods, stating, “President Trump and his administration have taken decisive action today by approving a major disaster declaration for Kentucky, unlocking critical federal resources to support our communities in the wake of devastating flooding. This recent flooding has caused heartbreaking damage and disrupted the lives of countless Kentuckians.” He expressed his gratitude towards President Trump for his involvement and assured that the resources would aid in emergency response, debris removal, and recovery efforts.
Comer emphasized that his office is “in constant communication with local officials throughout Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District,” promising ongoing efforts to ensure that families receive the necessary assistance.
The disaster declaration follows a letter from Comer and Kentucky’s federal delegation to President Trump on April 14, supporting Governor Andy Beshear’s request for federal aid. With the declaration, individuals impacted by the flooding can access the Individual Assistance (IA) program for support beyond insurance and other aid. Eligible expenses include rental support, home repairs, temporary lodging, and other critical needs.
