Men's Basketball extends winning streak to three with win over Harris-Stowe State

Playing in their final non-conference game before they head up to Northwood on Saturday, the Kentucky Wesleyan Men's Basketball team used a big second half to take down visiting Harris-Stowe State 85-56 at the Sportscenter on Tuesday night. 

Wesleyan now moves to 3-3 on the year.

KWC jumped out to an 11-6 lead five minutes into the game thanks to three straight buckets from Borja Fernandez, Jordan Roland and Markel Aune. Wesleyan continued their push, extending their lead to 12 (27-15) on an Edward Jones Jr. three with just over nine minutes to go in the half. The Hornets weren't done, however, as they used multiple offensive rebounds to make it just a 35-30 game at the break. 

The Panthers got out strong, with Fernandez and Ben Sisson scoring on KWC's first two possessions. After Harris-Stowe cut it to 43-39 three and a half minutes in, Wesleyan got their mojo back, going on a 14-0 run to make it an 18-point lead with 12 minutes remaining. That run was capped off by back-to-back-to-back threes from Kaeveon Mitchell and Markel Aune. That run put Wesleyan in a great spot, as they outscored the Hornets 50-26 in the second half to come away with the 29-point victory. 

The Panthers had their best shooting game of the season, going 32-57 (56.1%) from the field and an incredible 13-24 (54.2%) from three. 

Markel Aune continued his run of strong play, scoring a team high 17 points on 6-10 from the field, and 5-9 from three. Kaeveon Mitchell scored 15 points on a perfect 5-5 from behind the arc. Jordan Roland (14) and Borja Fernandez (10) each scored in double figures. Ben Sisson led the way with eight boards while Kennedy Miles racked up six assists and four steals. 

The Panthers hit the road on Saturday when they take on G-MAC newcomer Northwood up in Midland, Michigan. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.
