Bearcats Avoid Sweep to Ohio Christian

The Brescia University Baseball team advances to 1-2 in RSC play following a three-game series with conference foe, Ohio Christian. The Bearcats extend their record to 6-12-1 overall.

Game 1: Trailblazers 6 Bearcats 3 (10-innings)

BU would strike first in the bottom of the first inning as Kendal Kortz would reach first on a hit-by-pitch. Wyatt Griskey would advance Kortz on a single to left field. With two-outs, Kortz would steal third to bring him within 90-feet of the plate. Cameron Dean would single through the left-side to give Brescia the 1-0 lead. Despite taking the lead, the Trailblazers would even the score as they string hits together as a single would bring in the tying run. A tied score wouldn't stop the Bearcats from taking the lead in the second inning as Miguel Rubio would turn on an inside pitch to send it over the left field fence. His two-run homerun would give BU the 3-1 lead heading into the third inning. A scoreless third and fourth inning would make way for a Trailblazer rally as a double to deep right-center field would push two more runs across for OCU to tie the score for the second time this game.

Both teams would remain scoreless until heading into extras where OCU would take advantage of a base loaded error to plate their first run of the inning. Two singles up the middle by the OCU offense would push two more runs to home plate as the Trailblazers take the lead 6-3. The Bearcats couldn't capitalize in the bottom of the 10th as back-to-back strikeouts would end the game.

Miguel Rubio would go 2-for-3 with two RBI's, two hits, and two walks. Gavin Reames picks up the loss in game one.

Game 2: Trailblazers 12 Bearcats 5

Game two of the series proved difficult for the Bearcats as they struggled offensively late in this seven-inning affair. The Trailblazers would homer in the top of the second inning to take the early 2-0 lead. Gavin Reames would rebuttal OCU with a two-run homerun of his own to even the score in the bottom of the second. The Bearcats would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Cole Troutman would single to right field to get the offense rolling. Troutman would advance to second on a wild pitch as Kendal Kortz would score him on a single through the right side. Despite taking the lead, the Bearcats would give up a seven-run fifth inning to take a 10-4 lead. The Trailblazers would take game two 12-5 over the Bearcats as Schon Pespisa picks up his second loss on the bump.

Game 3: Bearcats 9 Trailblazers 1

In game three of this series, The Trailblazers would take the lead in the top of the second inning as a single up the middle would plate a run for OCU. The Bearcats would tie it in the bottom of the third as Kendal Kortz would triple to deep right center field. Wyatt Griskey would reach on a fielding error by the shortstop as Kortz scores, tying the game for the Bearcats. BU would tack on eight runs over five innings, including a big three-run inning by the Bearcat offense. Brescia would avoid the sweep and take game three of the series, 9-1.

Kendal Kortz would finish 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, two RBIs, and a walk as Cole Troutman and Gavin Reames each finish 1-for-2 with four total runs. Tommy Clark picks up his first win on the bump for the Bearcats.
