House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer has issued subpoenas to President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, brother, James Biden, and Biden family associate, Rob Walker, to appear for depositions. Comer also requested the presence of additional members of the Biden family and their associates for transcribed interviews. The subpoenas and interview requests come as part of an ongoing investigation into the Biden family's business dealings.
According to financial records obtained by the House Oversight Committee, the Biden family established more than 20 shell companies, most of which were created during Joe Biden's vice presidency, in an attempt to conceal payments from foreign adversaries. Over the course of approximately five years, the Bidens and their associates received over $24 million from foreign nationals, including millions of dollars from China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan. The financial transactions were made in a complex manner to hide the source and total amount of money received.
Devon Archer, a Biden family associate, testified that Joe Biden was "the brand" that the Bidens sold around the world to signal access, power, and influence. Archer admitted that Joe Biden had been involved in business discussions with Hunter Biden and his associates, had dined with foreign associates, including Russian and Kazakhstani oligarchs, and a Ukrainian executive under investigation for corruption, and had even written a college recommendation letter for Hunter's Chinese business partner.
The House Oversight Committee recently uncovered two checks labeled as "loan repayments" from James and Sara Biden to Joe Biden. These checks were funded by laundered China money and domestic influence peddling schemes. Despite calls for evidence of the loans, the White House has refused to provide any proof.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan stated, "President Biden and his administration have continually changed their stories throughout this inquiry. You know who's been consistent? The IRS whistleblowers. With each piece of evidence we gather, their whistleblower accounts are corroborated. These subpoenas are a necessary next step as House Republicans deliver accountability for the American people."
Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith echoed this sentiment, saying, "The American people are learning the truth about how the Biden Family sold access to Joe Biden and his political influence all around the world. Based on the evidence uncovered by an ongoing Congressional investigation that includes the testimony of two brave IRS whistleblowers, we know President Biden lied when he said he had no knowledge of his son's business dealings; we know he was not only aware but involved; and it has now become abundantly clear that he in fact benefited. No one should be shielded from legal scrutiny based on their last name. Congress has a constitutional duty to conduct oversight to determine whether our nation's elected leaders have used public office to enrich themselves or their families, and more importantly, whether those public officials may be compromised by their family's foreign business dealings."
The subpoenas and transcribed interview requests mark the next steps in the investigation into the Biden family's influence peddling operation. The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, along with the Committees on Judiciary and Ways and Means, will continue to follow the evidence and provide transparency and accountability to the American people.
