Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.) has announced the commencement of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition, inviting high school students from the 1st Congressional District to showcase their artistic talents. The competition, organized by the United States House of Representatives, aims to recognize and celebrate the creativity of young artists across the nation.
“If you are a student interested in demonstrating your artistic ability, I would encourage you to apply for the Congressional Art Competition,” Congressman Comer expressed. “Every year my office receives wonderful pieces of art. Once again, I look forward to seeing the creative skills of students in Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District on full display.”
Participants are invited to submit their artwork for consideration, with the winning piece from the 1st District being exhibited in the U.S. Capitol for a year. The second-place winner's artwork will be displayed in Congressman Comer’s office for the same duration.
Artwork entries must adhere to specific guidelines, including size and weight restrictions, and must be framed if selected as the winning piece. Various forms of art are accepted, such as paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, and photography.
The first-place winner will not only have their art displayed in the Capitol but will also receive an invitation to a reception in Washington, D.C. during the summer months. Additional benefits may include roundtrip airline tickets and a scholarship to art and design colleges. More details on prizes will be announced by the Congressional Art Competition on their website in the coming weeks.
All submissions must be received by Friday, April 26, and can be delivered to Congressman Comer’s District Offices at specified locations in Kentucky. For further information on the competition and artwork drop-off locations, interested participants can visit Congressman Comer’s website at comer.house.gov/art-competition or contact his office directly at (202) 225-3115.
