Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Chairman Brad Wenstrup will hold a hearing titled “Preparing for the Next Pandemic: Lessons Learned and the Path Forward.” This session marks the final hearing of the 118th Congress. It aims to evaluate strategies for enhancing America's public health response in future crises and identify key lessons from the previous pandemic.

Government officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and National Institutes of Health (NIH) will testify on how they plan to regain public trust. The hearing intends to address issues of inconsistent messaging and lack of science-based recommendations that contributed to failures at these agencies during COVID-19.

Chairman Wenstrup stated, “Over the last two years, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic conducted a comprehensive investigation into the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We exposed high-level corruption in our public health systems, held bad actors accountable, and revealed new insights about the likely lab origin of COVID-19." He emphasized that learning from past failures is crucial to avoid repeating them.

The session is scheduled for Thursday, November 14, 2023, at 11:30 AM ET in room 2154 Rayburn House Office Building. Witnesses include Henry Walke from CDC, Hilary Marston from FDA, and Lawrence Tabak from NIH.
