Congressman James Comer has reached out to the Trump Administration, urging an expedited transfer of federal land within the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant back to Paducah, Kentucky. In a letter addressed to U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, Comer emphasized the need for prompt action to facilitate economic development in McCracken County.

Comer stated, "I am writing to bring your attention to the efforts of my constituents in Paducah, Kentucky, who are eager to facilitate the transfer of remediated land located within the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant to the local community." He highlighted his support for expediting cleanup efforts with the aim of returning the land for community use.

In 2023, a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy was awarded to the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce. This grant is intended for studying regional workforce capabilities and strategizing on utilizing specialized skills present in this nuclear-ready community. Comer noted that he played a role in securing this grant through federal appropriations legislation.

"It has been conveyed to us that DOE and EPA officials expect the first land transfer of approximately 200 acres to be finalized later this year," Comer added. He urged continued progress on this transfer and stressed prioritizing communication with local officials and interested parties.

Concluding his letter, Comer invited DOE and EPA officials to visit Paducah. "Paducah officials and residents would be honored to host you for a visit to share progress on site cleanup and share their vision for the future of their community."
