House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer recently addressed the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) at its inaugural hearing, titled “The War on Waste: Stamping Out the Scourge of Improper Payments and Fraud.” In his opening statement, Chairman Comer praised President Trump's initiatives to enable Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency to carry out a comprehensive audit of government operations. This hearing aims to support these efforts by identifying solutions to the issue of improper payments.

Chairman Comer expressed gratitude towards DOGE Subcommittee Chairwoman Greene for her leadership in organizing this critical first hearing. He emphasized that addressing improper payments is crucial for the Oversight Committee, the Trump Administration, and American taxpayers.

Subcommittee Chairman Grothman also delivered remarks during the session. He thanked Chairwoman Greene for initiating what he termed as "the war on waste." Grothman highlighted President Trump's electoral mandate to eliminate inefficiencies in Washington and protect taxpayer funds. According to Grothman, President Trump has tasked Elon Musk and DOGE with auditing government activities to find ways to reduce waste.

Grothman pointed out that improper payments have resulted in a loss of $2.7 trillion since 2003, with fraudsters, criminals, foreign actors, and even government employees misappropriating funds meant for eligible recipients. He noted bipartisan condemnation of this waste but criticized Democrats for allegedly defending bureaucracy rather than supporting reform efforts led by DOGE.

In closing his remarks, Grothman reiterated support for President Trump and DOGE's mission against waste, fraud, and abuse within government spending.
