Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Chairman Eric Burlison has announced an upcoming hearing focused on artificial intelligence (AI) titled “America’s AI Moonshot: The Economics of AI, Data Centers, and Power Consumption.” This event aims to assess the global status of AI, along with the infrastructure needed to support it. It will also explore how maintaining America's leadership in AI is crucial for national security and economic growth.
The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. ET in the Rayburn House Office Building. It will be accessible to both the public and press and will also be livestreamed online.
Chairman Burlison emphasized the importance of retaining the United States' position as a leader in AI. "The United States is the indisputable global leader in AI, but under no circumstances can we take this lead for granted," he stated. He noted that President Donald Trump's administration acknowledges AI as a critical area for future prosperity and security. Burlison highlighted Congress's role in supporting efforts to responsibly advance AI while fostering innovation through pro-market solutions.
Witnesses set to testify include Neil Chilson from the Abundance Institute, Josh Levi from the Data Center Coalition, and Mark P. Mills from the National Center for Energy Analytics.
This hearing follows President Trump's recent Executive Order aimed at promoting AI innovation by reducing barriers within this field to ensure America's international dominance.
