From Cap & Gown to Career: Mazvita Ngorosha ’22, B.S. in Computer Science

My name is Mazvita Ngorosha and I am from Zimbabwe. I graduated from Brescia in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a minor in Political Science. I started my career after graduation in June 2022 as a Software Requirements Engineer at Abbott Laboratories. I work on medical devices such as pacemakers and heart monitors in the Cardiac Rhythm Management Division of Abbott. I really enjoy my work and I am happy that I am able to apply my education from Brescia University on a daily basis.

My professors at Brescia helped me to prepare for my career both in my education and in advising me on the opportunities and paths that I could take after graduating. My professors in my Computer Science classes educated me in the technical and problem-solving skills necessary for a career in tech. I learned the fundamentals of Computer Science and worked on assignments that allowed me to problem solve and create through programming and designing fun and challenging projects. My professors also provided me with resources and guidance in applying and interviewing for career opportunities.

My academic experience at Brescia University helped me to develop into a well-rounded person both at work and in my personal life. In addition to my Computer Science, I use my general education to understand non-technical topics and connect with others. I am able to brainstorm and research new information in my work and connect it with my general education from Brescia. My education has provided me with a wide range of technical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I also received great career advising, help with my resume, mock interviews, finding an internship, and network opportunities from Career Services at Brescia. The support from Career Services prepared me for job interviews and my professional career after graduation.

I had a great academic and extracurricular experience at Brescia. As a Student Ambassador, Orientation Leader, Resident Assistant, and member of student-led organizations such as SAAC, BSU, The Music Club, and the Women’s Tennis Team, I had the opportunity to connect with fellow students, make friends, and develop my leadership skills. I was able to work and spend time with my friends in different organizations. My on-campus involvement also allowed me to learn how to collaborate and work in teams, a relevant skill in my current role. Being part of clubs and teams also provided me with an outlet to have fun and connect with others. My involvement in clubs and teams and my education allowed me to have a successful academic career.

I would recommend considering Brescia as your choice of college if you are looking for a place where you can interact and connect with professors and fellow students as you earn your degree. There are students from different parts of the country and the world who are all working towards their goals. At Brescia, you can earn your degree, develop career skills, and make lifelong friendships. I am happy and grateful that I was able to develop my skills and knowledge and spend my four years of college at Brescia.
