House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer has announced a hearing titled “Oversight of the U.S. Census Bureau.” The session will address the activities of the Census Bureau, focusing on preparations for the 2030 decennial census. It will also review findings from the 2020 Post-Enumeration Survey (PES), which identified statistically significant miscounts in 14 states during the 2020 census. These errors may have influenced representation in the House of Representatives and affected electoral college vote distribution.
“The Census Bureau’s review of the 2020 census revealed substantial miscounts and discrepancies tending to benefit Democrat-run states," stated Chairman James Comer. "Congress has a responsibility to conduct oversight of these massive errors to ensure they are not repeated in the 2030 census. Additionally, current integrity issues with the census must be addressed."
Chairman Comer further commented on broader issues, saying, "The Biden-Harris Administration facilitated the worst border crisis in American history, allowing millions of illegal aliens to enter and reside in our country unlawfully." He emphasized that "to ensure only U.S. citizens are counted for the apportionment of congressional seats and electoral college votes, Congress must pass the Equal Representation Act to add a straightforward citizenship question to the Census."
The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. ET in HVC 210. Robert L. Santos, Director of the U.S. Census Bureau, is expected to testify.
The event will be open to both public and press attendance and will be available via livestream at https://oversight.house.gov/.
