Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Chairman Pat Fallon announced plans for a second hearing concerning the Biden-Harris Administration's suspension of liquified natural gas (LNG) exports. This session is titled “Exposing the Truth on LNG: How the Administration Played Politics with America’s Energy Future.” It forms part of an ongoing investigation by the House Oversight Committee into restrictions on new permits for LNG exports to countries without Free Trade Agreements.

Concerns have been raised that the Department of Energy may be obstructing this investigation by not providing crucial information. This includes a possible draft study from 2023 on LNG export impacts reportedly sent from the National Energy Technology Laboratory to DOE headquarters. The committee also seeks clarification on any involvement by White House officials, such as climate advisor John Podesta, in implementing this ban.

“Liquified natural gas not only plays a critical role in American-made energy production; it plays a critical role on the global stage," stated Subcommittee Chairman Fallon. He expressed concern that "the Biden-Harris Administration’s decision to pause new LNG exports harms our energy production and security." According to Fallon, there is an urgent need for transparency regarding this policy and its implications.

The hearing is scheduled for December 4, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. ET in room 2247 of the Rayburn House Office Building. Witnesses include Brad Crabtree, Assistant Secretary of Energy for Fossil Energy and Carbon Management at the U.S. Department of Energy, and John Podesta has been invited to testify as well.

This event will be accessible to both the public and press with live streaming available online.
