The Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, led by Chairwoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, has announced its inaugural hearing scheduled for February 12, 2025. The session is titled “The War on Waste: Stamping Out the Scourge of Improper Payments and Fraud.” According to Greene, since 2003, improper and fraudulent payments have resulted in a loss of $2.7 trillion in taxpayer funds.
Greene attributed some responsibility for this situation to the expansion of Medicaid spending and rapid pandemic-era funding under the Biden-Harris Administration. She emphasized that President Trump has been tasked with addressing these issues through auditing federal payment systems. The DOGE Subcommittee aims to collaborate with expert witnesses to explore how Congress can support efforts to eliminate wasteful payments and fraud.
“Fraudsters, organized criminals, malign foreign actors, and even corrupt government employees are filing hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of fraudulent claims each year — and getting away with it,” stated Chairwoman Greene. She stressed the importance of ensuring taxpayer money benefits hardworking Americans rather than being lost to criminal activities. Greene further remarked that this hearing marks an initial step toward establishing a more effective government.
The hearing will be held at 10:00 a.m. ET at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington D.C., with testimony from Stewart Whitson, former FBI Special Agent; Haywood Talcove, CEO of Lexis Nexis Risk Solution; and Dawn Royal from the United Council on Welfare Fraud.
Media interested in attending must RSVP by February 11 at 5 p.m. ET.
